RSPB Wildlife Explorers is the junior section of the RSPB.

All wildlife enthusiasts between the ages of 7 and 12 are welcome to come along to our meetings and join in the fun.

Indoor Meetings are held at North Bridlington Library, Martongate, Bridlington from 6 p.m. until 7.30 p.m. on the third Tuesday in the month.

There is on-site parking and disabled access to the ground-floor meeting room. Access to the library is well sign-posted off the small roundabout, opposite West Crayke, just past Somerfield supermarket.

Please note that we rely on a number of volunteers and local people to provide the extensive programme of events that we have planned. As such, dates, places and times could be subject to change, so please phone Margaret, our Wildlife Leader, on 01964 532827 or 01964 532827 to check on any particular event.

Indoor Meeting        Tuesday 15th May   All about the Albatross
This year’s Wildlife Explorers' national campaign is to help save the plight of the albatross, so we will be spending the evening finding out more about these special birds.

Outdoor Meeting to Far Grange Wildlife Reserve, Skipsea
Saturday 19th May 9.30am to 11.30am

Off the B1242 between Skipsea and Atwick, opposite the entrance to the golf course. This will be a good opportunity to see this reserve as the wildflower meadow comes into bloom and if conditions are right we might be able to do some pond dipping.

There will be no indoor meetings in June and July so that we can make use of the light nights and get outside to see wildlife. There are also two very special events that have been organised for families that we as leaders are involved in and will be attending so please come and join us.

Outdoor Meetings June and July

Saturday 2nd June 16.30     Wildlife Explorers' Puffin Cruise
This is one of a series of cruises sailing on the Yorkshire Belle from Bridlington Harbour. This special family cruise sails at 16.30 and lasts about 2 hours. The special ticket prices are £22 per family (2 adults & 2 children) for all WEX members. Tickets are available from Lesley Brown on 01262 850959 (mornings only)

Saturday 16th June at Dalby Forest    Mr Badger is having a party!
This is an event that is happening in Dalby Forest at the new visitor centre from 10am to 4pm. There will be a host of activities from wildlife attractions to tombolas, miniature steam rides, bouncy castle and more. Entrance is free once you are in the forest drive (cost £7.50 per car)

Tuesday 17th July 6pm to 7.30pm at Barmston Beach and cliff top
Park at the site of the old café, taking the turn off the main Bridlington to Beeford road, A165 and keep going to the end. This is an excellent place to see house martins nesting in the cliffs and there is always something to see on the beach.

Saturday 21st July 9.30 am to 11.30am at Willowgarth Woods, Boynton
As well as checking on the stream life with our wellies on, we will be doing some sweep netting in the nearby woods to find out what minibeasts live in the undergrowth.

Have a wonderful summer and we will see you again in September - on Tuesday 18th for our Indoor Meeting entitled All about Camouflage and again on Saturday 22nd for our Outdoor Walk at Dane’s Dyke.
